Extremely Capable soundbar looking for better SW

I’m giving it a 4 star because it unlike some of its competition, at this price the lack of upward firing speakers does make a difference and the software , despite the 4.0 update; requires tweaking. BluOS could benefit a bit from feature cutting and streamlining. Pairing the soundbar with Pulse Sub+ took longer than it needs to and I don’t care what the reason is. It is not an acceptable UX.

I am bought into the Bluesound ecosystem but I was open to trying new things. One of my criteria was a white soundbar and very few brands make em in white, at least ones I can get my hands on. I compared this to a Bose Ultra and it was a hard decision. For my room, Bluesound performed better. Bose was louder and in the miss and high I could feel the bump. So in simple listening tests without correction it would feel like Bose is better but when you dial things right, it is a difficult decision. At least to my ears, objectively for music this is a better soundbar (standalone). While dialogs and voice is extremely clear on the Bose, the bluesound does not disappoint. I found the slightly laid back presentation easier to deal with.
On its own some movie scenes like the sound of waves crashing on Dunkirk were much better, but overall for the variety of movies the Bluesound was better. I tried the usual Nolan movies, Mad Max, 1917, Dune, Avatar and this product did not disappoint.

Fortunately I already have Bluesound Sub+ and pairing this with it - the results and performance just went up a notch.

I can’t say much about the virtualised atmos presentation because unlike some of the reviews apart from a large soundstage I don’t necessarily know what to expect.

One thing I would recommend it turning off the volume leveller. I don’t know what it really ends up doing but I prefer the results with it being off.

I recommend this product for anyone with a small to mid size room and highly recommend getting a sub. If this is your first Bluesound product - you won’t be disappointed if your primary use case is TV & movies. This does not beat a proper stereo for music listening, which I have. In fact I would say by two Flex’s and sub do better with music than the soundbar. Once again - Physics. The separation matters. As noted music isn’t bad, but stereo is better.

Aesthetically, I like it a lot in white and it works well in my space. Mind you I live in an apartment so space is a premium and hence why I got this bar. If you have a bigger room, I would recommend taking the traditional approach. I just don’t have the room for all that gear.

Overall - it’s a solid soundbar at this price and musically it’s one of the better ones. However, bluesound needs to take it up a notch in software department. Folks, room correction please!! You gotta have something for it by now!

Amazing sound in a small package

We replaced our old gen 1 pulse soundbar with this version. It has a wildly deep bass and some really incredible features. It is a great overall soundbar and the blueos app just recently updated and is waaaaay improved!

Wanted a sound bar with Atmos, and to pair into home theater group with Pulse Flexes. Sound quality when grouped was not poor, with muddled dialogue and a weird sounding effect. Was better with no groupings. To listen to music you must disconnect home theater group and recreate non-theater grouping, and it still doesn’t sound as good as it should. No enhanced dialogue setting, no TV setting, no sub crossover on this model. I like the Soundbar 2i (no Atmos) better.
